With the number of people leaving the Catholic Church today, so many clergy have expressed their greatest disappointments and have attributed this to a lack of motivation on the part of the Church.
Fr. Dwight Longenecker in response to this in his tweet, attributed the mass departure to the fact that the Catholic Church has stopped being a religion and has become a club for aging activists.
Meanwhile, his tweet has brought about so many reactions from the lay faithful who think there are more to what he is saying.
Ryan Gilles in his retweet was of the view that, people leave the Catholic Church because they weren’t properly taught the faith (both at home and in the Church), and that they were not Catholic to start with, therefore they don’t understand it’s importance and it’s necessity for salvation.
Another retweet from Franciscan Poet disagreed with Fr’s opinion on the grounds that people leave the Catholic Church because they have been seduced by a culture that emphasizes secular and self-serving views of faith and morality.
While from Mister Magic’s retweet, he attributed it to being sick of the child abuse cover ups in the Catholic Church.
However, Fr. Dwight in response to these, said that, the Church should respond not by chasing after a spirit of the times, but by recognizing the signs of the times. He concluded by saying that the wind will drive away the chaff.
